It’s the season of love, and you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with a new event in Pokemon GO. This love-themed event takes place Sunday, February 14 at 1 PM local time until Thursday, February 18 at 8 PM. The event will see the introduction of new Pokemon, Valentine’s Day-themed raid bosses and spawns, friendship bonuses, and much more. Here’s everything you need to know about the Pokemon GO Valentine’s Day event.
Valentine’s Spawns
As part of the event, some Pokemon will be appearing more often in the wild. Wild spawns will include Pokemon that come in pairs, like Plusle and Minun, Volbeat and Illumise, and Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂. Other pink and love-themed Pokemon will be appearing, too, like Luvdisc.
Most exciting, though, is the debut of an all-new Pokemon: Munna. This pink and purple Psychic-type originally appeared in the Unova region, and it’ll be appearing in Pokemon GO for the first time as part of this event. You can use a Unova Stone to evolve a Munna into Musharna.
Valentine’s Eggs and Raids
Some Pokemon that conjure up ideas of love and romance will be appearing in eggs and raids as well. The following Pokemon will hatch from 5 km eggs obtained during the event: Eevee, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Luvdisc, Woobat, Cottonee, and the all-new Munna.
Our Other Pokemon GO Guides
If you’re looking to get some raids in, here’s what you can expect:
One-star raids will contain Ralts, Volbeat, Illumise, Feebas, Munna, and Espurr. Three-star raids will feature Togetic, Espeon, Umbreon, Gardevoir, Gallade, and Alomomola. Five-star raids will have Latias and Latios. As for Mega raids, look forward to Mega Pidgeot, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Ampharos.
Collection Challenge
Niantic seems to love giving us collection challenges in Pokemon GO lately, and they’re issuing another one as part of the Valentine’s Day event.
For this collection challenge, trainers will need to catch the following Pokemon: Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Espeon, Umbreon, Plusle, Minun, Volbeat, Illumise, Luvdisc, Latias, Latios, and Alomomola. If you manage to complete the challenge, you’ll be rewarded with five Silver Pinap Berries, a Lucky Egg, and an Incubator.
Friendship Bonuses
The Valentine’s Day event will also feature some pretty nice bonuses in the friendship mechanic. Gifts will have higher chances of giving you berries. While opening gifts, you might also receive some event-exclusive stickers.
There will also be an increased chance for you to become Lucky Friends with other trainers, and Pokemon you trade will have higher chances of becoming Lucky Pokemon. Pair this with an increased trade range of 40 km for the event, and it’s definitely looking appealing to get some trades in.
Other Info
As always, there will be other, smaller bonuses and features of this event.
Check the in-game shop during the event to find a bundle containing three remote raid passes for free. Those looking for a wardrobe update can also check the shop for some new avatar clothing items, inspired by Munna. These will stick around after the event, too, so there’s no need to catch them now. Gardevoir and Gallade are one of the most famous pairs from Pokemon, so it makes sense that they’d be featured during the Valentine’s Day event, too. Evolve a Kirlia into either Gardevoir or Gallade during the event and they’ll know their Community Day move Synchronoise.
Lockdowns and restrictions are still in place in many places worldwide due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, so be sure to follow all local health authority guidelines when playing. Wear a mask, opt for remote raids over in-person play, and be careful when venturing outside.
