As employees of any company, the one thing everyone wants is to do their job and find that paycheck at the end of the day. Yes, there are people who do more things for a business, and that is completely fine. However, when companies or certain foundations start asking their employees for a little extra, it can look a bit bad. According to a Reddit user from Oregon, the Providence Foundation has started asking its employees for donations via email, and those working for it are not happy with how “pushy” they’ve been acting lately.
User CaramelSideEye on Reddit shared a picture of an email allegedly sent by Providence Portland Medical Foundation in Oregon, in which you can see the email praising the job its employees are doing, but then, as the OP mentions, there’s a line that sounds a bit off, a part basically asking for donations.
“Today I’m writing to ask if you will consider taking part in the 2026 Caregiver Campaign by making a special gift to Providence Portland Medical Foundation.”
The email then says that the “gift” employees will give to the company will help support fellow caregivers, making programs available to everyone, and increasing equitable access to essential care.
Now, while the email itself is a bit strange, OP says there are things that have added fuel to the fire, as the timing seems off. For instance, OP claims there have been layoffs and a lot of strain on the staff. On top of that, the one who shared the picture believes this shouldn’t happen, as employees are already giving their time and effort to the jobs they perform.
What makes the whole thing seem a bit greedy, at least according to some Redditors, is that some employees who reported the email as spam still received a new one in their actual mail.
Oregon Redditors Feel Providence Is Being a Bit ‘Greedy’
As you can see from some of the comments, this isn’t an exclusive situation, as other Redditors also saw this email, and despite looking for ways to get rid of it, the “gift” suggestion still found its way to them.
“I reported that email as spam, but then they sent it in the mail too, the audacity.“
“I reported it as a phishing email, so they then sent it to my HOUSE also! We are severely short-staffed, most didn’t get raises, and they keep trying to threaten to eliminate our jobs…but yet they are asking ME for money?!“
Employees aside, Redditors joined in and started criticizing Providence, noting that it was insisting more than it should.
“The audacity is overwhelming.“
“That’s absolutely ridiculous!”
In the end, it seems many Reddit users share OP’s sentiment, saying that companies should not ask their employees for donations, and if they do, they shouldn’t push so hard for them.
