Solo Leveling: ARISE is finally here to help you get your Solo Leveling fix after that rather short anime adaptation. It’s also a gacha RPG where you control Sung Jinwoo and other notable Hunters on his goal to become stronger. And while Jinwoo gets an advance by being the only one who can level up, starting right means starting strong, so here’s a starter guide for Solo Leveling: ARISE to give you a proper exciting boost.

Gameplay Explained – What is Solo Leveling ARISE?

Solo Leveling: ARISE is a third-person action RPG with gacha mechanics. The game is similar to Genshin Impact where you control a party of characters one at a time. You can swap between them to utilize their abilities. It’s also a real-time instance-based action RPG, not turn-based nor open-world.

The game’s main draw is its characters or so-called Hunters in Solo Leveling lore where you must build up your team and roster of characters. To help you, you can try out your luck with the gacha mechanics. You can use in-game tokens or tickets for a chance to win a character in the game’s roulette reward system.

For those who are already familiar with other gacha games, Solo Leveling: ARISE sets itself apart by giving you one main character that you can’t swap out during Story Chapters or missions. That would be the aforementioned Sung Jinwoo— the manga and anime’s protagonist. Jinwoo is gender-locked, unlike other gacha games with a main character.

However, the other gacha characters you win in your gacha pull attempts have certain abilities that can help Sung Jinwoo. Tankers, for example, can provide a shield for Sung Jinwoo (more on the class system later).

Also, outside of Story Chapters and the main story, don’t worry– the game will allow you to use characters apart from Sung Jinwoo. Regardless, you have to level up all your characters, and give them weapons, and also artifacts (armor) so you can face progressively tougher enemies.

Solo Leveling: ARISE Classes Starter Guide

Each Hunter in your party has a different role (unless you select the same classes). You’ll also notice that every character has different icons next to their name, that explains their class.

Currently, these are the classes in Solo Leveling: ARISE.

TankerAssassins are your typical glass cannon roles and they’re often melee Hunters who utilize stealth and surprise attacks to flank enemies. They deal high damage but are also more vulnerable compared to other melee classes.
FighterFighters are Hunters who excel in melee combat and thus have attacks that are more physical and close-ranged.
MageMages are Hunters who specialize in elemental and magical attacks, often dishing out damage from a safe range. They have less defensive capabilities compared to Tankers or Fighters.
AssassinLast but not least, Healers are the support class for Hunters and they will keep your whole party alive and healthy.
RangerRangers are similar to Assassins except they prefer to fight from a safer distance. They also utilize mostly physical attacks, making them distinct from Mages.
HealerLast but not least, Healers are the support class for Huntes and they will keep your whole party alive and healthy.

In addition to classes, Solo Leveling: ARISE also has different elements. Each Hunter has a different elemental type, making them weak or strong against certain enemies depending on their element.

A Hunter or character’s skills can also be determined by their element.

Currently, Solo Leveling: ARISE has five elements and these are independent of the character’s class.

  • Fire
  • Water
  • Wind
  • Dark
  • Light

Enemies will typically display their elemental weakness or resistance before you even undertake a mission. This way, you can plan out your party.

Solo Leveling: ARISE Starter Guide – Progression

You don’t need to worry too much about the starting hour. Solo Leveling: ARISE has a 20-30-minute tutorial where the game practically takes control for you. All you have to do is click or tap on the prompts to get yourself acquainted with its systems.

Finish the Tutorial

Solo Leveling: ARISE‘s auto-tutorial lasts until Story Chapter 2 and only then will you be given control to check out the game’s interface or other mechanics. After the auto-tutorial, you can choose to continue the main story or do other activities such as drawing or pulling for other characters.

The game will also show you how to play the gacha mechanics during the tutorial where you can try to win Hunters or characters in a roulette system. I recommend immediately collecting resources and rewards and then pulling for characters as soon as you finish the tutorial. This way, you can see if you have a good starting character roster.

Reroll After the Tutorial

This is where the reroll technique comes in, which is a standard for gacha RPGs. The rarest characters in Solo Leveling: ARISE are SSR-rank.

Now, if you don’t get an SSR character, you can reroll using our reroll guide. It basically boils down to creating another account for the game and drawing or pulling in the gacha mini-game using the tutorial rewards to see just how lucky you can get.

Ideally, you’d want at least one SSR character (apart from Jinwoo) during your first 10-20 draws either in the Custom Banner or Rate Up Banner.

Gacha Banners

Like other gacha games, Solo Leveling also has different types of banners on which you can spend your Draw Tickets for a chance to win new and rare characters or weapons. Those two banners would be:

  • Rate Up Banner (limited banners featuring new characters)
  • Custom Banner (seasonal banner)

Each banner type accepts a different kind of ticket for the drawing or pulling attempt. You can know more about these Draw Tickets in our guide along with how to obtain them for free.

You’ll also want to spend your rewards here (Draw Tickets and Essence Stones) to ensure you get new weapons or characters.

Game Modes

After you’re done with the tutorial and if you’re also done with the reroll, you can check the Game Modes tab on the main menu to see what you can do in-game.

The Game Modes are as follows:

StoryTtraditional quests and side quests.
GatesMini-dungeons that reward leveling material.
Hunter ArchiveIndividual character story missions.
Encore MissionsMini-dungeons that reward artifacts (armor sets).
Instance DungeonBoss fight arenas.
Battlefield of TrialsA challenge mode with more advanced enemies.
Battlefield of TimeSimilar to Battlefield of Trials but with time pressure.
Power of DestructionMore powerful bosses.

As a beginner, you’ll want to focus your attention on Story, Gates, and Encore Missions if you want to progress and become more powerful.

Leveling Up – Hunters, Weapons, Artifacts

If you focused on the combination of Story Chapters, Gates, and Encore Missions, and spent your Draw Tickets and Essence Stones on the gacha banners, you’ll likely have a good roster of characters, weapons, and artifacts. The quests and login rewards will also shower you with material to level up those three aspects of progression.

Make sure to equip these weapons and artifacts on your characters and level them up. You can access all of them through the main menu.

Additionally, these are the materials you need to level up characters, weapons, and artifacts:

Characters (Hunters)-Gold
Weapons-Weapon Enhancement Gear (I, II, III)
Artifacts-Artifact Enhancement Chip (I, II, III)
-Gold

You’ll also want to take note of the level recommendations and requirements. Solo Leveling: ARISE is serious about it, and trying to finesse a higher-level boss or dungeon can often end in a disaster.

Solo Leveling: ARISE is out now and available on PC and mobile platforms.
