Everything Shown in Sony’s State of Play for Final Fantasy XVI
The biggest highlight of The State of Play trailer is the thrilling combat scenes between the different Eikons in Final Fantasy XVI. Eikons are giant creatures that inhabit humans called Dominants. Eikons are based on classic Summons from past Final Fantasy games, including Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Titan, Bahamut, Phoenix, and Garuda. The main combat of Final Fantasy XVI is fast-paced action similar to that of XV and VII Remake, but the Eikon battles switch up the fighting to be anything. Some Eikon fights are like a 3D side-scrolling shooter, while others are described as heavyweight wrestling matches. The presentation featured an elaborate boss fight with Titan Lost, who appears much larger than the typical Eikon.
Final Fantasy XVI also features elaborate set-up options, giving players a choice to customize the game’s setting to make it easier or harder. Specific setting options will help players time out dodges and strikes better by giving them a pop-up ring.

The lead protagonist Clive is the only character the player control, yet allies controlled by AI will join Clive’s party. Allies include childhood friend Jill, who was close to Clive’s brother Joshua, and a wolf named Torgal. Clive can also command Torgal, and players can even give him treats. Clive can transform into the demonic Ifrit and fight the other Eikons.
Pla will meet other friends and travelers on his journey, and he can recruit them to his Hideout. Clive’s Hideout will be the main hub world for Final Fantasy XVI. There will be shops in the Hideout where players can purchase weapons, armor, and consumables. There’s also an interactive item called the Arete Stone which will transport Clive to a training area. Players can change settings with Arete Stone to test their skills with specific opponents and compare scores with others online. The Hideout is also where players can access side quests, including Mob Hunts. Mob Hunts are quests where players take on monsters for bounties.
Players can report to an elderly-looking gentleman name Loresman Harpocrates in the Hideout. Talking will help him complete his Thousand Tomes, which players can read to learn about the history of Valishea.
