Amazon has released a teaser trailer for Swarm, its horror series co-created by Donald Glover (seen below). The show will go into dark and violent places as it explores the extreme sides of fandom.
The footage does not contain much context, but we get a sense of Dominique Fishback’s Dre, a young woman obsessed with her favorite pop artist. A buzzing sound acts as the soundscape with disturbing imagery of her mopping a pool of blood, someone injured crawling on the floor, and an attack on a driver of a car. The whole time we hear her ask, “Who is your favorite artist?”
Swarm trailer gives a dark look at the upcoming Amazon series
The Swarm trailer gives a look at what is next for Donald Glover and co-creator Janine Nabers, who worked together on Atlanta. The FX series concluded with its fourth and final season last year. From Community to Solo, this marks a different path for the actor/musician as he embarks into the realm of horror. Nabers, who also worked on Watchmen, will serve as the showrunner, while Glover directed the first episode. The two wrote with Malia Obama and Karen Joseph Adcock (Atlanta). Stephen Glover, Fam Udeorji, Steven Prinz, and Michael Schaefer executive produce. Fishback serves as a producer.
Fishback, known for Judas and the Black Messiah, is joined by Rory Culkin (Under the Banner of Heaven), Chloe x Halle singer and actress Chloe Bailey, and Damson Idris (Snowfall).
The series is the first project under an eight-figure multi-year deal from Amazon with Glover. It was his first major deal since parting ways with FX when Atlanta concluded. His brother, Stephen, also signed an overall deal with the company.
The show will make a premiere at SXSW festival, which runs from March 10-19. While the Swarm teaser trailer keeps curious viewers ready, the show will hit the streamer on March 17.
