A video shared by the son of a terminally ill cancer patient in Pennsylvania showed him and his father being removed from a Philadelphia Flyers game after they were chanting against the Pittsburgh Penguins during the event.
The Flyers and the Penguins are currently facing each other in a playoff series. The man and his father, both Flyers fans, shared a video showing an incident inside the stadium where security staff approached them and asked them to leave after they were chanting during the game.
The man appeared shocked in the video and questioned whether he and his father were being removed simply for chanting against the Penguins. One of the security guards responded by saying they were chanting “[expletive] the Penguins.” The man then argued that the chant was not isolated to them, claiming that the rest of the stadium was also participating.
The man then spoke with another stadium employee, arguing that if the wider crowd was chanting the same phrase against the Penguins, then he and his father should not be singled out for doing the same. The employee appeared to agree with his point during the exchange. The father also insisted that he did not personally use the profanity. Despite these arguments, staff continued to maintain their decision and insisted on ejecting both the father and son from the venue.
To make matters worse, both men had paid around $1,300 for their tickets to attend the Philadelphia Flyers game. Despite this, they were still being ejected from the venue, which sparked outrage online, with many users saying they should have been allowed to remain given the cost of their tickets. During the situation, the son also pointed out that his father has terminal cancer, explaining that this was one of the reasons they attended the game together.
“I’ve granted him a hockey game for him to have a good time. He is in tears as you can see,” the son said during the incident. He added that the situation felt “absolutely insane,” given that they had attended the game for his terminally ill father. The situation escalated when, according to the video, staff intervened more forcefully and one employee allegedly pushed the father. Another employee then told the son, “Your [expletive] camera in my face means nothing to me.”
“Just make your way out to the door. We’re done,” the boss, as he called himself, then told them. As the back-and-forth continued, the employees still insisted that the father and son leave the venue. As the boss began escorting them out, he claimed that NHL personnel were the ones who complained about the two.
The son then argued again that the entire stadium was cursing the Penguins. The boss responded by telling him, “Life is not fair.” Another employee then stated that they were not personally responsible for the decision, saying it was following orders from the “NHL bench.” The video ended with the father and son being escorted out as staff closed the doors behind them.
Outrage After Terminally Ill Flyers Fan Gets Kicked Out in Pennsylvania
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers expressed support for the Pennsylvania father and son, arguing that their removal from the game was unfair. Some, including Pittsburgh Penguins fans, said that chanting during a game is normal and should not lead to ejection. “As a pens fan, this is crazy. You buy tickets to the game, you can say what you want,” one person wrote. Another commenter suggested fans are not allowed to curse near the bench. The son then responded, “Never got anything like this, the whole section was rocking. I would understand if we were saying out of line things but we weren’t.”
More people expressed disbelief over what happened to the father and son. One commenter wrote, “$1,300 tickets you should be able to chant whatever you want. As a Pens fan this is sawft [expletive].” Another person claimed they witnessed the situation firsthand, saying, “I was next to them at the game they were not causing any problem what so ever. There were penguins fans in front of us and they were laughing at what they were saying.” Someone else added, “Refund is due, management needs to be retrained asap.”
The video was upsetting to many viewers, who felt that the father and son did not deserve to be kicked out. This led to widespread debate online about fan conduct and stadium enforcement.
