A man magnetic-fishing in Irving, Texas, reeled in quite the catch when he found a handgun in the river under a bridge. Going by the Reddit username CecilBlight, the angler claims the pistol “made his day,” though his discovery raised concern in his r/magnetfishing posts. Among the thousands that viewed his video and photos, dozens were shocked by how he handled the gun, not to mention the alarm of finding a deadly weapon in a city river, of all places.

In the video he shared, CecilBlight expressed his pleasant surprise at finding a handgun and began pointing it around. Many viewers accused the magnet-angler of pointing the gun at himself, his girlfriend, and multiple other directions, which is considered to be poor gun safety practice.

Numerous Redditors Were Shocked by How CecilBlight Handled the Gun

“Watch where the barrel is pointing!” exclaimed a commenter. “I flinched when he pointed it to the camera, and then gasped when he pointed it to his face,” remarked another. “I have very little experience with guns, but the one thing I know is to never point the shootey end at something you don’t intend to shoot,” said a third.

CecilBlight refuted the claims about aiming the pistol at his girlfriend, saying that he made sure to be careful while examining it. However, he did not respond to the comments, claiming he had pointed the gun at his face while peering at the barrel.

Others discussed whether the fisherman should turn in the handgun to the police, as it might have been used in a crime. “It may have been dumped after a murder. I doubt guns just randomly end up in water like that,” expressed a Redditor. “It’s a lama. Those are ditch guns. 100% used in a crime,” claimed a second.

This wasn’t the first time CecilBlight found a handgun during his magnet-fishing endeavors, as he found a damaged revolver months back. While guns are a highlight, OP shares videos and photos of the many curiosities he fishes up, from grenades to pieces of heavy machinery.
