This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

After several delays and uncertain plans for the E3 event, the organizers have announced they are shutting down this legendary convention. This will be shocking for many of us who used to follow this event back in the day. Before the Summer Game Fest or the many showcases for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo, E3 was the biggest gaming event, and it was a blast. Sadly, things evolve, and some conventions don’t manage to get enough participants. So, after two decades, it is time to say goodbye.

Back in March, the Entertainment Software Association announced the cancellation of the physical and digital event, which made many people curious. Some thought it was normal, as many companies have taken their games to specific showcases. Nintendo has stuck to its Directs and PlayStation to its showcases. While they are great, they left little titles for the E3. Nowadays, with other events such as Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards, there are fewer reasons to have the E3 with us. Still, it is extremely sad to see one of the biggest events disappear, but all of those who were around will remember it fondly.

Still, it doesn’t seem like the other big game events are doing so well. The latest Game Awards were heavily criticized for not focusing on the gaming industry. Most awards happened off-screen, with some of the biggest ones happening quickly. Many fans believe this year designated more time for celebrities than for game developers. Besides, no one even mentioned the layoffs happening in the industry, and even the GOTY winners had less time than celebrities like Matthew McConaughey. We hope this isn’t a trend that will continue because as much as we love seeing game reveals, developers also deserve time to take the spotlight.
