Airlines don’t have a good reputation for taking good care of people’s baggage, and Delta definitely is among the more infamous of destroyed luggage “body count.” Delta most certainly smashes guitars, but one individual also discovered that the company destroys snowboards as well. Flying from Montana to their home in Wisconsin, the passenger was traveling with their “brand-new model” of Jones Snowboard. Upon arrival at their airport, they were horrified to see the state of their board. The protective case had been torn into, with the snowboard inside scraped to its core.

“That is messed up,” remarked a commenter on the snowboard owner’s r/delta post. “You realize how much friction that would require to not only eat the bag but to removed the entire base material down to the core of the board?!” they exclaimed, pointing out that the bag must have been on a sanding belt for a long time. “Delta may not understand the significance of this much damage,” says another. “As someone who built boards and flys a lot this is truly remarkable destruction.”

The snowboarder had just bought their board this year and flew out West to give it a go, but now their $1,000 snowboard had been ruined by careless airline or airport employees. “They worried about flammables in my luggage and near start mine on fire and throw it under the plane,” the passenger complains. One commenter tried claiming that it was probably just the airport’s poor conveyor belt system instead of Delta’s fault “Yea total accident i get that,” OP said in response. “Someone’s responsible tho.”

Another person said in agreement that the airport’s baggage system is what caused the damage. Still, the bag should have been moved by hand and not placed onto the conveyor belts, meaning someone was either ignorant or negligent. Either way, hopefully, the passenger gets some sort of compensation for this loss since many agree that it was Delta’s responsibility to get their luggage to them in one piece.
