Twerking Booty Robin Makes Vermont Mom Mad, Sparks Debate for LGBTQ+ Toys: ‘This is What’s Wrong With the World’

Toys have evolved over the years to cater to changing generational preferences, and it appears one woman from Vermont isn’t taking kindly to these changes. The woman was appalled at the sight of a Teen Titans Robin toy, because, unlike other male superhero toys, this particular Robin was arching his butt out and even had a built-in twerking mechanism. The woman couldn’t help but share her thoughts online, leading to a rather lengthy debate.

A mother shopping at Burlington refused to buy a Teen Titans Go! Robin toy for her young son after he picked up the twerking figure.

She called the toy “ridiculous,” adding: “This is what’s wrong with the world, y’all.”

In the viral video, the woman can be seen shopping at Burlington, likely in Vermont, until her son presents her with the aforementioned Robin toy from the hit cartoon, Teen Titans Go!, prompting her to stop, film, and lambast the toy. “Now you think it’s all cute or whatever, until you see this,” says the woman as she points at Robin’s butt. She then turned on the vibration mechanism for the butt, making it seem like the Robin toy was twerking.

“Why in the hell would a boy want a toy with a boy shaking his butt… This is ridiculous, it’s not funny. This is what’s wrong with the world y’all,” rants the woman, further questioning the thought process and target market behind the creation of the toy. For the record, twerking Robin, or Robin’s particular Booty Scooty episode twerking dance, was actually part of the cartoon (shown on Cartoon Network), meaning the toy is official.

Teen Titans Go! is also marketed as an LGBTQ+ related series on Cartoon Network and even features explicitly queer characters like Booster Gold and Ted Kord, though canonically, Robin (Dick Grayson) is usually a straight character in the show and comic books (though this doesn’t exactly prohibit him from twerking).

People Online are Telling the Mom to Lighten Up

Because of the context behind the toy, many commenters have defended the Booty Scooty Robin, with some harsh clapbacks such as, “It’s the Booty Scooty you uncultured swine,” and even asking, “i’m just wondering if she’d prefer it to be a girl twerking? at least that’s what it seems like she’s implying?” Others even went as far as imply that the mom was unaware of what her son is watching, “Maybe if she would watch the show and know what her son was watching maybe she wouldn’t have this problem.”

Still, some people sided with the mom and even called out Teen Titans Go!, accusing the cartoon of things like, “i feel like teen titans go is just filled with fetish material nowadays” and even shaking their heads at the Robin toy, “I agree with mom. The doll is really very gay.” The toy, meanwhile, doesn’t explicitly indicate which gender or orientation it’s for.

Of course, others felt that the mom’s reaction to the toy was overblown, especially the part where she blames the twerking toy for why the world is problematic right now, “i think there’s worse things going on in the world rn than a twerking Robin toy,” comments an X user. Another X user had the same sentiment, “I mean theres genocide, political division, racism, climate change, trafficking, pedophilia, police corruption, endangered animals, PFAS, but yeah, a twerking toy is whats wrong with the world.”
