Valorant has been in a closed beta stage for the past two months. Players have been able to play through Twitch and hop into the game. With the beta period over with though, it looks like Riot feels the game is nearly in a state they’re happy with. Through announcements on their social media, the team has announced that Valorant will launch on June 2nd for PC. There are no console versions planned, but we’ll update you if that changes. All applicable regions will have access to the game, with a never before seen map and possible new agent coming with the launch.

Valorant is a shooter focused on both great mechanics and communication. You’ll pick from one of the available agents, each with their own set of abilities and role on a team. Using those abilities and the various guns you can buy, you’ll either assault the other team’s points or defend them from attackers. First to either eliminate the enemy, explode the spike, or defuse the spike wins the round. After so many rounds, whoever has hit the score wins the whole match. It’s a very simple idea, but it’s highly addictive and has been addictive in the past. If you haven’t gotten the chance to play yet, you’ll be able to play completely free when it releases on June 2nd.

Overall, we love the game so far. As we said in our impressions piece just over a month ago, Valorant sports some solid gunplay and great character diversity all around. Since that post, they’ve been listening to feedback and have been working on game balancing making it a better experience. It’s definitely not going to kill CS: GO, but it’ll definitely hold its own as a solid competitor. We hope this continues with future content and balancing to the game, but the initial impressions do show some promise.
