If you’re one of the classic FPS fans that’s been clamoring for the return of GoldenEye 007 to modern consoles, then you can rest easy now. During the September 2022 Nintendo Direct stream, the company announced that the GoldenEye remake is “coming soon” to Nintendo Switch. With the release of the GoldenEye remake, in total, there are going to be 16 fan-favorite N64 games released via the company’s Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription service; but when is exactly GoldenEye remaster will be coming to Switch?
When is GoldenEye Coming to Nintendo Switch Online?
At the time of writing, both Nintendo and the official James Bond online portal, 007.com, have yet to announce when the GoldenEye remaster will be released on the console for Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers. Nevertheless, 007.com and Xbox Wire have confirmed that the game will also be available for owners of Xbox Game Pass and/or Rare Replay subscription services.
Quoting the Xbox Wire news post, the Xbox version is going to be updated, featuring modern controls, improved graphics including “dual analog stick” support, native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD, consistent frame rate, as well as “classic” cheats and “iconic” split-screen local multiplayer mode. Interestingly though, the online multiplayer feature is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version. We will update this article once Nintendo or 007.com have revealed the release date for the GoldenEye Switch remaster.
Back in 2010, GoldenEye was remade for the Wii, featuring actor Daniel Craig’s likeness and changes to fit more with his James Bond series of movies. Then around 2016, there was a talk around an attempt to revive the game for the Xbox 360. Hampered by rights problems, the game was never officially seen in the light of day, and a development build end up leaking on the internet many years later. In June 2022, fans worldwide expected a release for a proper GoldenEye 007 remaster since a list of Achievements was spotted on TrueAchivements.com. And finally, this time around, yes, you can expect Mr. Bond not to die.
