Syfy released an extremely short–almost too short–trailer for Season 3 of its hit space opera, The Expanse. According to the trailer, the show will return on April 11th, about a month and a half from now. Are you ready to experience the growth of the Protomolecule? And how it’ll affect all of those not only aboard the Rocinante, but those all around the solar system as well? Check out the trailer below to get your first peek at what’s to come.
The Expanse is based on a series of novels by James S.A. Corey of the same name. Like the show, the novels follow the journey of the crew of the Rocinante in their hunt for the truth. Politicians, Belters, and your every day Martian are on the brink of war, all because of the discovery–and creation–of a dangerous, sentient substance known as the Protomolecule. The second season on Syfy finished up telling the story of the first novel, Leviathan Wakes, while beginning to dive into the second book, Caliban’s War, as well.
With the crew of the Rocinante split up, the rest of the solar system fights for ground in a planet-wide conspiracy that very well may cause the destruction of the human race. That closing line in the trailer made by Jim Holden sums up a lot of what you can expect in Season 3: “It’s time to find out who we really are.” This statement plays into what happened at the end of Season 2. Jim’s lover, Naomi Nagata, betrayed him and the rest of the crew by handing over a stashed sample of the Protomolecule to the leader of the Belter political faction, Fred Johnson. Other important characters’ allegiances, like the Martian, Bobbie Draper, will be put to the test as the war within the Solar System erupts.
Season 3 of The Expanse will add some new and familiar faces to the mix. Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost, V, Once Upon a Time) and David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck, The Darkest Hour, Alphas) joins the show as war begins to reach its boiling point.
