After working for Marvel Comics as a writer for almost two decades, Brian Michael Bendis has announced his departure from the company. Not only will he be leaving though, he will be taking his talents to his former companies’ rival, DC Comics.

Earlier this week, DC’s official Twitter account tweeted out the news revealing that they had signed the veteran to a multi-year, multi-faceted deal. Bendis retweeted the news, adding a statement of his own.

This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy. I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Details to come! Stay tuned! https://t.co/S1x5JDmGTt

Over the past 18 years, Bendis has been one of the companies most important writers, with numerous high profile hits that have shaped what Marvel Comics has become today. With artist Mark Bagley, he found his start with Spider-Man back in 2000. From their, he found praise for his work on Daredevil, a saga which saw the Devil of Hell’s kitchen involved in a nine-year run with the Avengers.

Bendis’ most notable achievements revolve around the creation and reinvention of some of the most popular characters in Marvel today. He helped create Jessica Jones alongside Michael Gaydos, the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man with Sara Pichelli, and the first female Ironman, Ironheart Riri Williams, with Mike Deodato.

Currently, he is still writing for Marvel, working on Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man, Jessica Jones, and The Defenders. Despite the fact that he is jumping ship to their rival, his soon to be former company offered a pleasant statement regarding the news.

“Brian is a great partner and has contributed incredible stories and characters to the Marvel Universe over the years. We appreciate his creativity and professionalism, and we wish him the best on his future projects.”

There is no exact timetable regarding when Bendis will stop working for Marvel Comics, as well as when he will start working for DC Comics. Be sure to check back to the site for updates, as well as all of your other Nerdy News and Needs!
