The Uncharted movie finally has a release date. Tom Holland will bring the character of Nathan Drake to the screen on December 18th, 2020, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It seems unbelievable after all this time the film has spent in development. It was way back in 2008 that news hit of the film being worked upon. To put that another way, the movie’s star, Tom Holland, would have been 12 years old. Since then, the film has gone through various different writers and had plenty of rumors of the actor who was to play Nathan Drake. There was even a fan campaign to get Nathan Fillion to play Uncharted’s lead man due to his uncanny resemblance to him. While that never happened, we were treated to an awesome fan-made short starring Nathan Fillion, as a taste of what could have been.

It wasn’t until 2017 that Tom Holland was announced to star in the Uncharted film. It’s been a long time coming. Holland will play a young version of Drake (Nathan, not the rapper) in a story that will act as a prequel to the Uncharted video game series. The next big question (and a huge bit of casting) will be who they announce to play Sully. Names in the hat so far are, Chris Hemsworth, Matthew McConaughey, Chris Pine, and Woody Harrelson. Out of those, my vote would have to go to Harrelson.

Clearly, a lot of effort has gone into getting this film made and hopefully that will be a promising sign and we’ll get a good quality adventure. However, the proof will be in the pudding. There’s certainly plenty of great moments and humor that could be stolen from the games. Will we finally get a brilliant video game movie? That really would be uncharted territory.

Are you excited to see the Uncharted movie next year? Who do you want to play Sully? Let us know in the comments below!
