Oscar-winning and highly decorated director Steven Spielberg announced he would not direct another musical after West Side Story. This morning the PGA (Producers Guild of America) Awards breakfast was held at the Skirball Cultural Center in LA. This annual breakfast panel that precedes tonight’s PGA awards ceremony garnered the nominees for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award. Although highly known as a director, Spielberg is nominated for this award as one of the producers of his musical film West Side Story.

At the awards breakfast, a panel was held with the theme being the iconic Steven Spielberg himself. During this conversation between Lisa Fisher, president of the PGA moderated, the panel and Steven Spielberg, the Oscar-winning director revealed to the audience that he would never direct another musical. This doesn’t mean Spielberg is wholly done with musicals. He also stated he’d be involved as a producer on some and is currently co-producing one for the musical adaptation of The Color Purple.
