We’ve had our eyes on Abandon Ship for a while now, and we have an update on the game’s release and some impressive new gameplay footage to go along with it. Unfortunately, the game has been delayed slightly, but it looks like it is shaping up to be a beautiful and intense adventure on the high seas.

The titles that stand out most to compare to what Abandon Ship appears to be are FTL and Sunless Seas. A rogue-lite, survival, management game set on a monster and danger-infested ocean, it looks like it will be an intense and death-filled experience. In a press release, the developers claimed that early testing is going well, but they are delaying the game’s Early Access release to early next year.

The press release reads:

Abandon Ship is a very systems-driven game, which is a fantastic fit for Early Access. We’re really looking forward to getting feedback and balancing the game with our community. We’re committed to delivering an extremely high-quality experience, and to ensuring that even our initial release is as feature-complete and polished as possible. So far, the response from our play-testers has been exceptionally positive, but why stop there? With a little extra time, we can make the game even better.

Alongside the press release, the developers released a thirty minute Let’s Play video that showcases some of the changes the game has gone through. It looks like there will be some fun ship battles, a beautiful overworld map, and plenty of terrible things awaiting your ship and crew. And, of course, massive Kraken attacks. Check out the new video below.

Abandon Ship: Developer Let's Play

Abandon Ship is developed by Fireblade Software and will release in Steam Early Access near the beginning of 2018.
