Snoop Dogg has been in hot water since his controversial performance at President Trump’s inaugural event and his questionable comments about LGBTQ+ representation for Disney Pixar’s movie, Lightyear. That said, the rapper has now seemingly entered repair mode for his PR’s sake by making “Love Is Love,” a pro-queer song for his animated kids’ show, Doggyland. “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be able to be shown love to be taught what love is,” Snoop Dogg remarked.

Snoop Dogg continued, stating how people are people and shouldn’t be put into a box and forced to interact only with a particular group or culture. “I have the opportunity to teach the kids through my music and through Doggyland. So, it’s a partnership that we’re working to teach these kids what love is about,” the artist expressed. Earlier this year, Snoop Dogg made quite a different comment about same-sex romance when the lesbian couple in Lightyear kissed and were shown with a baby. “I didn’t come in for this. I just came to watch the movie,” he recalled on the It’s Giving podcast.

He questioned why the Pixar film had added such content in the first place: “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions.” Naturally, many took his statements as inflammatory remarks against gay and lesbian parents and a jab at the LGBTQ+ community in general. The like-to-dislike ratio on both the podcast video and his channel’s video about Doggyland for supporting LGBTQ youth and families is mixed. This is evidence that not everyone is on board with Snoop Dogg’s intentions, with Reddit having a thing or two to say about it all.

“This guy has no backbone at all, good or bad,” remarks a commenter, pointing out how Snoop Dogg will criticize LGBTQ+ people, then add them to his cartoon for kids. “I’d respect you more if you just stood behind being homophobic. No one is falling for this; it’s embarrassing,” the user expressed. Another accused the rapper of being “disingenuous,” as many believe this Doggyland song about love is just a means to clear up his PR after his “Trumpy” inauguration performance and anti-LBGTQ+ statements. A third says that Snoop Dogg has always been “fake” by “flipping to whatever is paying the most,” in terms of his values.

At the very least, a majority of fans agree that most children won’t know the Doggyland’s “Love Is Love” is just a PR move and enjoy it as it is. The supportive action and outcome are commendable, but many still feel that Snoop Dogg is just trying to save his reputation after ruining it earlier this year.
