Far Cry 5 released March 27th, 2018 to a mostly positive reception. The majority of players and critics have enjoyed the chaotic mess but some gaming sites have criticized Ubisoft’s passive political stance taken during the story. After today, Ubisoft probably couldn’t care less about these criticisms.

Ubisoft has officially announced that Far Cry 5 has had the second most successful launch in the company’s history (first being Tom Clancy’s The Division). That’s pretty impressive. Not only that but it is also the fastest selling title in franchise history, doubling the first week sales of 2014’s Far Cry 4. Also, over 55,000 hours of gameplay have been streamed on major platforming services since its release. Yeah, it’s safe to say Ubisoft doesn’t care that they didn’t make any bold political statements.

The executive producer of Far Cry 5, Dan Hay, put out this statement on the success of their latest game:

“We are humbled by players’ reception of Far Cry 5 and fired up to keep growing and supporting the Far Cry community in the months and years to come.”

This is some fantastic news as Far Cry 5 deserves most of the praise its received over the past week. Hay’s statements, although vague, gives some optimism that it will be a game that will attempt to improve itself over the course of the next few years (Much like Tom Clancy’s The Division or Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege). With Ubisoft implementing the endless amount of content known as Arcade Mode, I can’t see why Far Cry 5 couldn’t be a popular game for years to come.

In my opinion, Far Cry 5 has been a joy to play through so far but what do you think? Let us know in the comments and be sure to follow us here at The Nerd Stash for the best coverage of the latest news, reviews, and anything else Nerd Culture has to offer.
