The war between the U.S. and Iran is something that many people don’t want to see happen. While many people can only express their disagreement online or through demonstrations, one Marine went as far as to protest at a Wednesday Senate war powers resolution vote in Washington, D.C. Brian McGinnis was immediately dragged outside by Republican Senator Tim Sheehy and three police officers, and in the struggle, he ended up breaking his arm.
For his actions, the Marine was charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer, three counts of resisting arrest, and unlawful demonstration. He also had to go to a hospital to get his arm treated. When the Marine left the Washington, D.C. hospital, he was greeted by a group of cheering supporters outside. You could hear the crowd yelling, “Free Palestine.” The Marine acknowledged the crowd, saying he appreciated their showing their support for him.
In another clip, you could see the Marine expressing his stance to the crowd. He said that he took an oath to defend America from foreign and domestic enemies and stated that America was currently facing domestic threats. He accused the current administration of being in cahoots with Israel and leading America into unprovoked wars. The Marine argued that American citizens had to stand up and protest against this war. He also mentioned how the people in Palestine were suffering far more severely than Americans realized.
Many Reddit users who saw the update were glad to hear that the Marine was alright after the Washington, D.C. Senate altercation. “Get well, Marine. Thank you Sgt. McGinnis,” one user wrote. Another said, “Wish I could send him well wishes personally. All I can do is pray for his speedy recovery. I think Sheehy accidentally did the opposite of what he intended and made Brian a hero while showing more people what’s being censored and why.”
Some users even began encouraging others online to support the Marine if he decided to run for Senate. Many seemed to trust him greatly after his actions at the Senate in Washington, D.C.
Of course, there were also those who disapproved of what the Marine did at the Senate meeting. “No Islamist is a humanitarian; it’s so easy to find useful idiots,” one user wrote. Another commenter said, “He just wasted his moment. He conducted an effective protest that got America’s attention, correctly called out foreign infiltration of our country, and in his big spotlight moment posed with the flag of a foreign country.”
