A woman in New York, who was identified online as Black, is facing backlash online after a video circulated showing her making a controversial remark about White people.
The situation began during a street interview in Brooklyn. While being asked, “So when you see like White people in your neighborhood,” the woman interrupted the interviewer and gave a response that sparked controversy online.
“Very disturbing how comfortable they are,” the woman said in reference to White people during the street interview. She then continued, saying, “Uncomfortable to me for Caucasians to be more comfortable than I am in my own neighborhood.”
When asked to explain further, the woman in New York said that White people have “a certain air,” which contributes to her discomfort. She added that not feeling at ease in one’s own neighborhood is upsetting, saying it “should be your safe space.” She went on to say that her neighborhood doesn’t feel like home when she sees a large number of White residents.
“But when it starts to feel like lower Manhattan or upper West side East side kind of thing where you see a lot of pale face comfortably walking in your neighborhood it doesn’t feel so much like home anymore,” she said toward the end of the video.
The video is gaining attention for a street interview in which a Black woman shared her perspective on feeling uncomfortable in her neighborhood. The clip has sparked broader discussion online about race relations, differing personal experiences in changing communities, and debates over whether such views should be expressed publicly or interpreted as offensive.

This also led to heated responses, including aggressive and racially charged remarks from some users. “White people move out = racist white flight. White people move in = racist gentrification. These people just hate White people,” one person claimed. Another added, “Isn’t it obvious whom the racists are to you people yet?”
Others argued that the reaction would have been very different if the roles were reversed. “Film this exact video. But have a white lady saying this. Her career would be over by the time she got home,” one person claimed. Another commenter reacted more harshly, writing, “Racist [expletive]. Searching for new words to camouflage what is clear overt racism and hate. Someone should find out where she works and make her famous. There is no place for racism in our society.”
