A man in California was accused of allegedly yelling racial slurs toward Black people for more than 10 minutes while standing in a public street.
The incident was filmed by a resident and took place near The Wedge in California. The video showed the man putting items inside his car, and from the very beginning he was heard loudly using the n-word. This prompted the resident filming to ask him, “What the [expletive] is wrong with you?” The man then made an inappropriate gesture in response. In a later part of the video, he was again seen repeating the same slur while still standing in the street.
While the video was short, the resident who filmed it made several additional allegations about what the man had reportedly said off-camera. The resident claimed they were woken up by the man yelling “Hate the [n-word]” at around 9 a.m. They also alleged that he said phrases including “kill all [n-word]” and “California would be so much better without the [n-word].”
In addition to this, the resident claimed that the man continued yelling racial slurs and making threats. They also called for him to be identified, writing, “I’m shocked and disgusted this just happened. I tried to get better videos. This guy needs to be found, he was surfing at The Wedge.”
Some viewers tried to suggest that the man may have been struggling with mental health issues. In response, the resident provided further context, rejecting that interpretation. “This guy is clearly hate filled but this wasn’t schizophrenia or some mental illness. He’s just a bigoted person, he was going on like this for about 10 minutes to his friend in the car in front of him before I started filming,” they wrote. The video quickly gained attention online.

Many viewers criticized the California man over the racist statements he allegedly made, with some suggesting the behavior could be linked to mental health issues. “I think the garbage may be having a mental breakdown,” one person wrote. This prompted another commenter to reply, “Sure looks like it. He belongs in an institution.”
Others argued that mental health was not the reason behind the racist display. “It’s literally just racism. Attributing this to mental illness is not only relieving him of responsibility, but also offensive to people with actual mental illness,” one person wrote. Another commenter added, “The way racists fixate on Black people. I’m almost certain he didn’t encounter any Black people at The Wedge or on the way to his car (or if he did, I’m almost certain they minded their business and didn’t speak to this man). And yet, racists around here keep Black people on the mind. It’s bizarre and disturbing, especially considering how few Black people are in the area.”
