Most Texas DoorDash drivers only have to worry about getting the correct order. But for one driver, she had to worry about being in the middle of a police chase. Despite being struck by a vehicle, she continued to make the delivery.
The driver, who chose not to be identified, is shown in the footage from a neighbor’s camera getting out of her orange car before being struck by a “small gray sedan.” The suspect, identified as Torrence Whittaker, can be seen fleeing the vehicle on foot. One of the neighbors, Lily Portillo, describes what she witnessed: “He jumped from the gray house all the way to this house, which is five houses.” The video has reached over 30,000 views since it was posted on TikTok.
The most shocking part of the story is that the Texas driver picked up the food and continued to make the delivery to the customer. The suspect managed to scale another neighbor’s fence, a fact also captured on video. He was later apprehended with the aid of a police K-9. The neighbor, Steve Jones, explains: “The video shows somebody climbing that fence going through my gate.” Whittaker will be charged with aggravated assault in connection with striking the DoorDash driver, along with the burglary charges that instigated the police chase.
People Demand Texas Driver Get A Raise
The Texas driver assures ABC local reporters that she is okay, though she reports having a lot of aches and pains. She thankfully suffers no broken bones. However, Portillo believes “maybe somebody can reward her” because “at the end of the day she did deliver the food.” Many have taken to the video’s comments, agreeing with those sentiments.
Many applaud the driver for continuing to make her delivery. One says, “Give that girl a raise, omg poor DoorDash driver.” Others agree that she deserves something for her trouble. Some suggest she “deserves a bonus,” while others say she deserves “a large tip.” Another commenter is shocked by the commitment she showed in getting right back up: “Nah, bro, that’s commitment.” They continue by stating they’d want her driving for them “every time. One comment suggests, “DoorDashers deserve better pay. The things we deal with are crazy.”
While Whittaker now faces multiple charges, many viewers were left talking less about the chase itself and more about the determination of a driver who refused to let even a police pursuit stop her from finishing the job.
