An originally Black family in Illinois is now facing widespread criticism and seemingly racist rants from social media users, all because they documented their life after adopting a White orphan boy. One of the most viral videos they posted now has millions of views across multiple social media platforms, though this newfound popularity has also led to some harsh judgments.
TikTok user biracialfamily, or Bi-racial family from Illinois, is the content creator in question, and on July 12, they posted a video of their family jamming and dancing to rap music. Among them is Daxtyn, the adopted boy in question, who is visibly of Caucasian descent while the rest of the family members appear to be of African-American descent. The video also had the caption, “Watch my white son when his big brother [expletive] beat drop.”
In the video, Daxtyn initially had a blank or neutral face and wasn’t dancing to the rap music, which led many viewers to assume he was uncomfortable with the situation or was shy. The child eventually danced on his own later in the video and seemed to be smiling. In another viral video weeks earlier, the mom, who supposedly runs the TikTok account, also wrote, “Lowkey. Daxtyn is the finest/dopest lil white boy raised in a black family..!! IJS….” and included captions like, “My white son, he really a ninja in real life.”
Sadly, the family has allegedly been dealing with judgmental looks and bullying even back in 2023. Apparently, Daxtyn has been bullied in school for having a “Black mom,” and the family even gets some uncomfortable stares in public places such as pools, something that has supposedly annoyed Daxtyn’s adoptive mother.
The bi-racial family has sparked debates and backlash
Thankfully for the family, many social media users have praised Daxtyn’s mother, claiming “he in safe space,” and “Ok but he has her ENTIRE FACE!! No way he’s not her son.” Others, however, were not so happy with the boy’s situation, with one of them even bothered by the skin color or race label. “You got me agreeing with white ppl but yea pls stop saying my white son and just my son,” argues a Black TikTok user.
Outside of TikTok, some social media users were more than harsh and even dropped some concerning comments bordering on racism. “Good on them I guess, but the look on his face says he’d rather be back at the orphanage,” claims an X user, adding, “He’s either gonna be the biggest [expletive] alive or the next KKK prez.” One X commenter also ignited backlash after an outright racist comment stating, “Putting a white child in a subhumans hovel is child abuse. That poor child.”
The important thing, however, is that Daxtyn appears to be happy and well cared for in his new family. His mother even bragged about serving up some actual “seasoned soul food” every day, something the boy has apparently enjoyed in many of the family’s videos.
