Passengers inside a plane arriving at Las Vegas, Nevada, braced for impact during a scary landing. The plane, upon making contact with the tarmac, not only bounced violently, but it also swerved erratically, sparking fear among those who were ready for the worst. Fortunately, they all got to live to fly another day.
The frightening moment was shared online by seb100things (Seb). He is an Australian author and keynote speaker based in Los Angeles, traveling to Las Vegas for a speaking event. In a matter of days, the clip attached above became one of his biggest to date. It garnered 570,100 views, 27,400 likes, and close to 500 comments.
The Nevada flight was arriving in Las Vegas, and Seb recorded one of the plane’s propellers from his window seat. He said it was particularly windy that day, so landing would be a remarkable feat.
“The winds were so strong on approach that I decided to pull out my phone and film. Glad I did,” he said.
Bouncing And Swerving
Upon touching the tarmac, the plane bounced twice. Seb described them as “big” bounces. After the second bounce, things didn’t improve much. The plane started swerving aggressively to the left. To correct course, the aircraft swerved back to the right, just as aggressively.
At that moment, a crew member made an announcement.
“Brace, just put your heads down and stay down,” a woman said. “Brace, brace, brace. Heads down, stay down! Brace.”
Passengers aboard the plane complied and braced, possibly fearing a crash. Fortunately for everyone in the cabin, nothing like that happened. The crew member said, “We’re good now. Sorry about that. Welcome to Las Vegas.”
Seb, meanwhile, laughed and cheered nervously.
Reactions
The video sparked many responses, some from viewers who were particularly skeptical of a propeller plane. One said, “If I see a propeller, I’m not getting on.” Another one commented, “I hate flying on prop jets. Just never feels safe.”
Other viewers were shocked by the landing itself. One wrote, “Holy, that was a hell of a swerve.. I can’t even imagine the paperwork and phone call with the chief pilot after that.” Another one added, “Fun fact: brace position is actually harder on the body during an impact.”
It appears Seb’s keynote speaking event went perfectly. He certainly had an anecdote to share.
