A Texas woman is catching both heat and support online after she posted herself getting a sandwich at Subway. The problem wasn’t just how she treated the employee, but her persistent request to add more food to her sub.
Posted by TikTok user Darrenhurley2, the confrontation turned sour quickly, given how the customer spoke to the Subway employee, Amber. The woman wanted to order a sub for her daughter with extra pickles, but Amber told her she couldn’t make it that way.
When the customer asked for another employee to make the sub, Amber wouldn’t allow it because she’s the shift leader. Amber eventually comes over to the sandwich with her phone and takes a photo of it, perhaps to protect herself in case a report is made.
The Texas woman demands, “Ma’am, you can’t tell me how much vegetables to put on a sandwich.” After all, she’s the one paying, so why should it matter? She also argues with Amber that no rule states how many vegetables can be on her sub.
When the mother sees she isn’t going to get her way, she makes her displeasure known and declares she’s never coming back. She then abandons her sub at the counter and leaves the store.
Viewers argue on the validity of the customer’s frustration
The response online wasn’t so cut and dry—some viewers were on the lady’s side, while others defended Subway. The conversation focused on Subway’s portion policy, with even Subway employees sharing their knowledge.
One commenter wrote that each sandwich only gets a “certain amount allotted.” A viewer who claimed to be a Subway employee backed this up. They said the customer was well within her right to ask for more veggies, then added, “However we are only allowed to put a certain amount of those veggies on the sandwich. This is per policy.”
Another commenter called out the customer for her behavior. “Just leave bro you ain’t paid yet. Why do you have to make a scene. It’s called free will. Use it.” Another viewer took a shot at the lady too, saying, “It’s not an all you can eat sandwich …you can pay extra, I’m sure.”
Regardless, the customer expressed some very entitled behavior throughout and at the end of the video. She not only went to Jersey Mike’s instead, but she also defended herself, saying, “…the way everything costs, I want to get exactly what I’m asking for and paying for!”
