An invitation to play golf with the President of the United States might seem like a once-in-a-lifetime experience that many wouldn’t dream of missing. However, Florida-based celebrity Nicko McBrain, Iron Maiden’s drummer, has reportedly refused such an invitation and gone further by openly denouncing Trump.
In an interview with the Telegraph, McBrain says one of his friends, who’s a “massive Republican,” invited him on a golfing trip with the President. The retired drummer wasn’t the least bit tempted. “I have my thoughts about him,” McBrain remarked, accusing Trump of being narcissistic and botching the war with Iran. He continued his criticism to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying, “Oh, he’s going to be put in prison.”
Nicko McBrain Thinks President Trump Deserves Prison
“My last word on Trump and his bunch of cronies is, they should be put in jail,” McBrain concluded on the matter; needless to say, he was clearly not accepting the invite to go golfing with the President. Despite being “not politically inclined,” the Iron Maiden member appears to be anti-Trump and against the current administration, based on his shared views in the Telegraph interview.
His comments about Trump were met with some backlash online, with some doubting the drummer even got such an invitation. “Things that never happened,” mocked a Facebook commenter. “Perhaps he should go back to England,” remarked another. “Idk man. You get an invite to golf with the president, you take it,” expressed a third on X.
On the flip side, many sided with Nicko McBrain and his controversial commentary against President Trump over the alleged golf invitation. “Metal music, at its core, will always reject corrupt politicians,” wrote a Redditor. “It tells you who the real artists are because musicians are used to speaking to power, not sucking up to power,” a second commenter shared.
It should be clear that this was a friendly invitation from McBrain’s friend, not directly from the President. It’s unclear whether the drummer has a direct connection to Trump or if the President was aware of this proposed outing.
Politics aside, Iron Maiden recently announced its plans for a North America tour in 2027. Although McBrain retired from touring with the band back in 2024, the drummer’s heated remarks have definitely sparked plenty of debate among fans and critics alike.
