At one point, does a neighbor go from being friendly to creepy? A New Jersey woman alleges in her video that her neighbor, who was initially friendly enough (and even offered a gift) has now become too uncomfortable to be around.
Posted by TikTok user Taylorchuich, who typically posts vlogs on traveling and fashion, shares her story to her viewers online. “What do you guys think? Is he just being friendly or is it getting weird. Like I’m concerned… why are you looking in my windows!!” she writes in the caption of her TikTok video.
According to Taylor, one of her neighbors has been frequently visiting her, showing up during her morning work meetings, knocking and pounding her door “incessantly,” and seeking her out when she’s on her porch. Taylor has taken steps to deter more visits by putting up a notice when they aren’t available.
That wasn’t enough to give him the hint. Instead, the neighbor has only been acting creepier. Recalling a Saturday she and her husband slept in, who could be knocking at 8 AM but her neighbor! She claims she could see him through their security camera, just standing in his driveway, watching their house. And when she came home from work, he was seen peering through her window, waving.
“Why is this 70-year-old man going in the neighbor’s yard to go see if I’m in my backyard,” Taylor thinks to herself. That alone, she says, has led them to spend money on a fence “because I have to keep him out of our yard.”
Although Taylor admits she isn’t looking to “complain” and understands people get lonely, but fears he’s bringing food from his fridge just to have an excuse to talk to her. “But I don’t think it’s our responsibility to entertain our neighbor.”
In a follow-up video, Taylor has said she and her husband are taking steps to deter the neighbor further. In addition to a fence, they were debating more security cameras, and also considered getting window covers. More importantly, Taylor has stated her husband will be talking to him.
Taylor’s viewers offer advice for handling her neighbor
In addition to recommending her next course of action, Taylor’s audience also speculated on the neighbor himself. While many suggested he might just be lonely, others speculated that he might have disabilities. In Taylor’s follow-up video, she shared his actual age—he wasn’t in his 70s, he’s 83 years old.
As TikTok user Mani_Mayhem put it, “He’s probably very lonely. It doesn’t mean it’s okay.” In the thread that followed, others argued this shouldn’t matter at all. “It’s not her issue. He’s a grown man who can get a hobby. Not bother a woman who has a husband,” another viewer fired back.
One viewer, TikTok user TAMARA, offered advice: “Stop answering the door, don’t feel obligated to explain yourself, and start documenting every visit.” She then suggested to get police involved if “his behavior escalates.”
Another viewer wrote, “My therapist brain is curious if this is dementia or Alzheimer’s,” and encouraged Taylor to seek “adult protective services.”
Whatever the reason, Taylor’s neighbor is clearly and consistently engaging in behavior that suggests boundaries aren’t being understood or met. A friendly chat is OK, but looking through someone’s window is not.
