A heartwarming moment took place in California after a Christian family decided to offer prayers instead of Halloween candy.
The family shared a TikTok video that began with a sign they had placed on their front door. “Jesus loves you, no candy, but we have prayer. Ring the doorbell,” it read.
The video then showed footage from the family’s doorbell camera, capturing a group of teenagers stopping outside the house while trick-or-treating. They were all dressed in Halloween costumes when they noticed the sign. One of the teens stopped and suggested taking off their masks before taking off his own.
His friends initially appeared reluctant to stay, with one saying he didn’t want to and that it was “time for candy.” However, they remained with him as he rang the doorbell. A woman from the family answered and asked whether they wanted prayer. While some of the teenagers laughed, the boy told her that he did. She replied that she would be right there.
The teenager then encouraged his friends to join him. When the woman came outside, the entire group returned and gathered around her. She held their hands and began praying for their protection and asking that they be watched over. The teenagers thanked her before leaving.
Along with the video, the woman shared a caption explaining why she chose not to participate in Halloween. “I am a Christian, a Believer in Jesus Christ. On these holidays we are to pray for thoses who don’t know the truth in what they participate in. We can still be kind to our neighbors and the community while choosing not to participate in practices that celebrate fear death or witchcraft. So I chose to pray for them and hope they understand that the spiritual realm is real. God is real and so is the devil. Scriptures does say love thy neighbor as thy self,” she wrote, adding a Bible verse.
Viewers Left in Awe Over California Family’s Gesture
Many viewers online found the California family’s gesture heartwarming, with some believing the teenagers genuinely needed the woman’s prayers. “Awww this is so so beautiful God Bless you always beautiful lady,” one person wrote. Another commented, “That boy is a leader. And he needed that. He didn’t care that his friends laughed at him and didn’t want to stay. He wanted to stay. And he stood his ground and waited patiently.”
Others continued praising the teenager for staying and encouraging his friends to join him. “The way he wasn’t embarrassed in front of his friends… the way he stayed… the way he got his friends to stay… I hope this gentleman is doing great,” one person wrote. Another commented, “They don’t know what you probably saved them from.”
The family’s gesture highlighted the different beliefs people hold about Halloween and how they choose to observe the holiday. The video also showed that some people would welcome receiving a prayer instead of traditional Halloween candy.
