A Virginia mother broke down in tears while recounting how her 3-year-old daughter was allegedly attacked by two other children at a daycare on a military base. The woman claimed her daughter was left without adult supervision in a bathroom when the children began hitting her, leaving her with scratches and a bite mark. Her story has sparked outrage online, with many netizens calling for the daycare workers to be held accountable for allegedly failing to protect the child.
The mother, who goes by @monicaaa.xx2 on TikTok, shared her experience in an emotional video posted on Wednesday. She struggled to hold back tears as she explained what happened to her daughter, Melani, who had only recently started attending the daycare.
According to Monica, her family had moved to Virginia after previously living in South Carolina, where her daughter attended a daycare without any problems. She explained that she and her husband had no family or other support system nearby, so daycare was their only option when they needed someone to look after their child.
The little girl started attending the daycare on October 13. However, less than three weeks later, on November 2, the daycare reportedly contacted Monica and her husband to inform them about an incident involving their daughter. Monica said the caller did not immediately explain what had happened to Melani. Instead, the caller mentioned that an investigation would be conducted and that the teachers involved had been removed.
The concerned parents rushed to the military base, where they reportedly encountered military police officers outside the daycare. Monica said they were initially prevented from entering the building and told to calm down.
When Melani was finally brought outside, her mother claimed she noticed several injuries on her face. “My baby’s face is red,” she recalled, describing two scratches across her daughter’s face, a bite mark, and additional scratches. She also noticed that the child’s ponytail had been pulled out of place.
“I always see my baby looking presentable,” Monica said. “I [was] so mad seeing my baby like this and I couldn’t be there to help her.”
The mother said she was even more devastated when they were later allowed to watch surveillance footage of the incident.
Mother Claims Surveillance Footage Showed Daughter Being Attacked
According to Monica, the footage showed that Melani had been using the bathroom when she needed help changing her clothes. A teacher reportedly noticed that the little girl’s underwear was wet and retrieved a fresh set of clothes from her belongings.
However, the mother claimed the teacher then left Melani sitting on the toilet and went to attend to another task. Another child allegedly approached the bathroom and blocked Melani from leaving. A second boy reportedly joined him, and Melani backed into a corner, raising her hands as though telling them to stop.
One of the boys allegedly began hitting Melani and continued even after another little girl tried to intervene. The second boy allegedly joined in after being encouraged by the first.
The mother said she could not bear to finish watching the footage because it was too upsetting to see her daughter being hurt. It is therefore unclear whether an adult eventually stepped in to help.
Viewers Demand Accountability Over Alleged Daycare Attack
The video drew sympathetic responses from viewers, many of whom were furious about the alleged incident.
“This is completely unacceptable. they need to be held accountable with consequences. this is heart breaking,” one person commented. Another accused the daycare workers of neglecting their responsibilities, writing, “The teachers ALLOWED THIS. They ignored her cries there is no way they didn’t hear anything!”
“BOTH of those boys should be kicked out of daycare and both of those teachers should be fired,” another demanded. “Those parents need to be investigated because how is it other daycare aged children have it in them to beat another kid,” a fourth added.
Some also comforted the mother, who was visibly distressed while telling her story.
“This is so traumatizing mama I am so so sorry,” one viewer said. “I’m crying with you! This is so sad! I don’t understand how it even went on for the duration that you did watch it. That was too long to be unaccompanied by an adult,” another wrote. Someone else remarked, “I’m so sorry this happened to your baby and your family.”
Monica said she blamed herself for putting her daughter in a situation where she could not protect her. She urged other parents to avoid daycare if they had another childcare option.
“We thought because she was on [a military] base that she was safe. No. She’s only safe with us,” she said.
Monica has not shared any updates about whether she and her husband plan to take further action against the daycare or the families of the children involved, as some viewers have encouraged.
