The masterminds behind Fortnite, Epic Games, continues to add on to their Epic Games Store library. This time, they’ve acquired the developers behind Rocket League, Psyonix. The critically acclaimed game that features a mix of soccer and supersonic acrobatic rocket-powered battle-cars is heading to the Epic Games Store in late 2019.

Recent Epic Games Store acquisitions of games like Borderlands 3 and Metro: Exodus would have gamers believe the Steam version of Rocket League will be unavailable to purchase by late 2019. In a blog post, Psyonix sort of addressed this topic:

“In the short term, nothing will change at all! We’re still committed to providing Rocket League with frequent updates that have new features, new content, and new ways to play the game for as long as you’ll have us.”

“In the long-term, we expect to bring Rocket League to the Epic Games store and to leverage our new relationship to grow the game in ways we couldn’t do on our own before. We believe that bringing Rocket League to new audiences with more support is a win for everybody.”

Psyonix

The studio later confirmed to USgamer that there are no plans to take Rocket League off of Steam anytime soon:

“We are continuing to sell Rocket League on Steam, and have not announced plans to stop selling the game there.”

“Rocket League remains available for new purchasers on Steam, and long-term plans will be announced in the future.”

While this is still a pretty vague statement, it seems that Rocket League will remain on Steam for the short term. We’ll see what happens when the game officially releases on the Epic Games Store later this year. Finally, it should be noted that Psyonix also stated that this deal will not affect Rocket League’s gameplay or its development team.
