Gun ownership has always been a controversial topic, but was most certainly a conversation at the dinner table of one Colorado family after their neighbor shot their house. The shot was allegedly accidental, and no one was reportedly injured, though the family definitely had quite the scare. One of the household members, who goes by X_Strawberri_X on Reddit, shared photos of what happened on r/Wellthatsucks. They claimed the bullet was from a hunting rifle.

“We got his guns taken away,” X_Strawberri_X wrote. “One more step and [it] could’ve been like my wall! He shot with a buckshot hunting rifle, so scary!” they exclaimed, claiming the bullet had “whizzed by their head.” Needless to say, thousands of Redditors were also left in shock at what happened, with several even sharing their own horror story of someone accidentally firing a gun inside a home.

“If you accidentally shoot your gun, it probably shows a lack of safety measures being in place,” remarked a commenter. “Absolutely terrifying to have an in-home interaction with any type of bullet,” a second said in agreement. According to OP, the neighbor “felt so bad” after he realized he’d shot in their home, even though his feelings of guilt allegedly didn’t stop him from getting his weapons taken away.

That said, multiple Redditors expressed satisfaction that the gun owner lost his firearms because of this accident. “I’m incredibly glad that idiot’s shotgun got confiscated,” wrote a user. “In Europe, this would trigger a city-wide investigation,” added another. “It’s insane how different America is.”

OP expressed their disdain in a response to the comments, saying, “Yes, I hate this country.” A third remarked at how “America is scary on so many levels.” A handful of other non-Americans also shared their thoughts of disbelief at how the freedom of US citizens to own guns has caused so many issues in terms of safety.

Of course, among the many who criticize the Second Amendment to the Constitution, there are just as many who blame gun violence, intentional or accidental, on the owners themselves. As one commenter points out: “Most people practice good firearm safety here, it’s just the idiots like this one who end up on the internet/news.”
