Angel Reese doesn’t have to worry about a thing … because her big bro, Lonzo Ball, has her back.
To set the scene … in the summer of 2024, Angel Reese received two technical fouls during a WNBA game against the New York Liberty. The moment came directly after Angel was seen arguing with a referee. At one point, the Bayou Barbie waved her hand in the ref’s direction, seemingly dismissing them. That was the second technical foul she had received during the game after snagging one earlier for expressing similar frustrations.
In the WNBA, players pay a fee per technical foul and the price tag increases based on how many they receive per season. Angel was charged $200 for the first two, bringing the total to $400. Because one was rescinded, she only had to cough up a couple hundred bucks. However, her NBA brother, Lonzo, had her covered.
Why Did Lonzo Pay Angel’s Fine?
After Angel Reese was ejected from her WNBA game this past season, Lonzo Ball defended her on social media.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Chicago Bulls player seemed to hint that referees in their industry must have thicker skin. “Ref that threw out @Reese10Angel is weak btw,” Lonzo said online. “You know who you are (Keep ya money, Angel, I got you).”
And he certainly did.
On the Unapologetically Angel podcast, Lonzo and Angel finally confirmed that the NBA superstar paid her fine in full.
When sharing questions with Lonzo that her fans wrote in, Angel asked: “Did you pay my fine?”
“I did,” Lonzo replied. “Do you know the story behind it?” Reese asked. “So you gave me $2,000. Do you know how much my fine actually was? It was only $200.”
Is Angel Going Through Financial Troubles?
Once the clip of Lonzo Ball confirming he paid Angel Reese’s fine made its rounds online, people praised the baller for keeping his word.
“That’s what’s up…. He solid for that …… [Lonzo] Good looking out,” someone wrote on X.
“Super solid for that,” another commented.
“She just like me,” another said. “I’m pocketing the rest, appreciate it, OG.”
This isn’t the first time Angel’s finances have taken center stage. Earlier this year, Angel made headlines after joking that the WNBA couldn’t pay her bills.
During a conversation with her fans on Instagram Live, the walking double-double teased that she was living beyond her means after revealing her rent is nearly $100,000 a year. Many netizens shared their comments, saying the baller should focus more like Caitlin Clark to get more money. Others bashed her for paying $8,000 in rent.
However, it could be easy to forget that Angel was one of the highest-paid college athletes (thanks to NIL) when leaving Louisiana State University. Additionally, her stock has only gone up since joining the league. She’s snagged partnerships with companies including Cash App, Beats by Dre, and Reeses, plus she’s gotten a few acting roles, too.
So, it looks like Angel is doing just fine.
