Aquaman has been out for more than a week now and already it’s in the top 10 grossing movies of 2018. Right now, it sits at #7 spot at the box office with $751 million worldwide with the movie making nearly $200 million domestically. This puts it in competition with movies like Venom ($213 million), Solo: A Star Wars Story ($213 million), Ant-Man and The Wasp ($216 million), and Mission Impossible Fallout ($220 million).

Aquaman

Over New Year’s Eve, the movie brought in about $10.1 million. At the pace that Aquaman is going, there is a good possibility that it could surpass Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman made $821 million worldwide. But it should be noted that this jump in sales could possibly stop soon due to the holiday break ending. As of yesterday, it has become the biggest DC Comics film overseas. It passed Batman V Superman, which made $543 million.

DC Comics has not had that much success in the past with their films, but it appears that audiences adored Aquaman due to the film being much more stylized and colorful, coupled with fresh humor. This is a great template for them to go off of in the future. For Aquaman to be a major success overseas, the key is China since they are the major market for western action films.

Aquaman is the third solo movie in the DC cinematic universe. The movie picks up after the events of Justice League. In this solo movie, Arthur Curry (played by Jason Momoa) goes from his life as an Islander to the heir of Atlantis.

Aquaman is in theaters now.

How well do you think Aquaman will do in 2019? For those who have seen the movie, what did you think about DC’s latest adventure? With it reaching nearly $200 million domestically, do you think that it can get to $300 million within the coming months? Let us know in the comments below!
