Cameron Diaz is a mom, again! She and her husband of nine years, musician Benji Madden, welcomed a second child — a boy this time — five years after the birth of their daughter, Raddix. On Friday, March 22, the couple announced the arrival of their second child, a son named Cardinal.
“They were always hoping for a second baby, because they love being parents,” an insider spilled to a news outlet. “For years, Cameron wanted to be a mom. She gets very emotional when she talks about the long journey to motherhood,” the source continued. “She feels beyond lucky to now have two children.”
The couple shared the news via Instagram, writing: “We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden. He is awesome and we are all so happy he is here.” Madden elaborated that he and Diaz would not be sharing any pictures “for the kid’s safety and privacy.”
It is unclear at this time whether the couple used another surrogate, as they did with Raddix, but an insider reported in 2022 (according to OK! Magazine) that — at the time — the couple had been “looking into surrogate options for a while now.”
Before marrying Benji at the beginning of 2015, Diaz briefly dated actor Matt Dillon, musician Jared Leto, singer Justin Timberlake, and New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez. As for Benji, he called it quits with his long-time fiancée, Sophie Monk, in February 2008. He officially began dating Diaz in 2014 before marrying in a Jewish-inspired ceremony.
Diaz was out of the acting game for a whole decade from 2014 to 2024 with only brief appearances on The Drew Barrymore Show and RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars. This year, she will flex her acting muscles once more with roles in the action-comedy film Back in Action (co-starring Jamie Foxx) and black comedy film Outcome (co-starring Keanu Reeves).
For now, Diaz seems to be finding her feet in the industry after an extended hiatus, all while navigating motherhood all over again with a boy this time.
