Out of all the events happening across the country, one that is on its way and people have seemingly forgotten about due to recent situations is the World Cup. However, those in California were reminded about it today, but not in a good way. According to a Reddit user, the LA Metro is now offering commemorative World Cup TAP cards. While that isn’t entirely bad, what shocked many was the $20 price tag, which many have called outrageous. On top of that, it seems a few are still angry about what happened with the whole FIFA Peace Prize debacle.
Dodger_Dawg is the Redditor who shared the picture on the Los Angeles subreddit, showing a brand-new TAP card for the World Cup. This new design, called “We Are 26,” seems to be made to commemorate the upcoming soccer event. And while some people have found the design great, a few are not too happy about it, especially after looking at the price.
As you can see in the image, the new TAP card costs $20 plus the fare you want to add to it. While this could be a stunt for foreigners coming to California, more specifically, LA, during the World Cup, many believe this is pretty expensive. Also, for the unaware, TAP cards are usually much cheaper, with the website claiming you can get one for $2 plus whatever fare you want to add.
Naturally, this angered and shocked several residents in the city who believe this is way too expensive and, on top of that, a bit tasteless, especially with how FIFA handled its Peace Prize.
California Redditors Share Their Thoughts on New TAP Card
While the card seems to be a limited-time thing only and an entirely optional purchase, people still think this is extremely expensive.

“Go away with this $20 nonsense. The tourists can have it.“
A few others, however, focused on the fact that FIFA has allegedly been doing a couple of questionable things, one of the biggest being the Peace Prize debacle.
“Honestly, after that whole FIFA Peace Prize thing, I have a visceral feeling of disgust any time I see the branding in my city.“
In the end, this card isn’t mandatory, but some would’ve liked to see it cost the same as others or for it to come with some extra benefits. Yet, judging by what Redditors are saying, almost no one will get this new TAP card.
