IDEA posted a clip on Instagram of Kaia Gerber rocking red hair, and in the caption, they shared more about the project, which launched this past weekend. “Here she comes now. Hidden Identities is the new book by Guido Palau and Kaia Gerber,” the caption reads. “Launches May 4th at @doverstreetmarketnewyork. Book signing with @kaiagerber and @guidopalau. Drinks by @rosebakerynewyork. Everyone welcome.”
The reactions to Gerber’s post have been positive, with several fire and heart emojis in the comment section. Guido Palau is well-respected and has worked with some of the most prestigious fashion brands. He loves wigs and has been collecting them for years. His latest collaboration with Kaia Gerber showcases many different hairstyles and colors. He discussed the inspiration behind the look in a recent interview with W magazine.
“The whole thing was very lo-fi, very ad-hoc. The images were blurry and pixelated, which I really like. I sent them to Kaia to edit so she could dismiss anything she didn’t want,” he said. And the book was born. “They’re not really photography books — they’re more like scrapbooks of what I’m feeling at that moment.”
“I’m not a woman, but because I’ve been around so many women and talked to women so much about their hair, I feel I understand them in that way,” Palau explained. “How a woman has all these sort of fights about her identity, all these different sides of her, and how hair represents and can bring out the different dimensions in a woman.”
