Larimer County investigators arrested Weld County Republican Party Chairman Hunter Rivera on Thursday following a sting operation in Windsor, Colorado. Rivera faces four felony charges after authorities alleged he attempted to arrange sexual activity with undercover officers posing as minors online. Authorities booked Rivera into the Larimer County jail on a $6,500 cash-only bond, with a court appearance scheduled for May 21.

According to investigators, the operation involved undercover officers posing as minors on websites and online forums commonly monitored during internet sting investigations. Authorities alleged that Rivera communicated with the undercover accounts before arranging a meeting in Windsor, where he was later taken into custody.

The 24-year-old previously served as a legislative aide at the state Capitol and recently sat on the state GOP’s executive committee. Following the arrest, Weld County Republican Party officials announced that Rivera had resigned from his position effective immediately.

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert labeled the allegations “vile and indefensible” while demanding Rivera’s immediate replacement as county chairman. Interim state GOP chair Eric Grossman and Weld County Republican officers also called for his resignation, citing a zero-tolerance policy for crimes against children.

Statements from Colorado Republican leaders quickly spread online after news of the arrest became public. Several party officials publicly distanced themselves from Rivera and emphasized that the allegations did not reflect the organization’s values.

The arrest drew significant public attention due to Rivera’s leadership role within the Colorado Republican Party and the felony charges filed in the case.

Political Fallout Builds Following Colorado Sting Investigation

Online reactions were swift, with many users focusing on Rivera’s prominent role in the Colorado Republican Party and the seriousness of the allegations. “It’s always the people you most suspect,” one commenter wrote, while another added that “public officials should be held to a higher standard.”

Other users debated how political organizations should respond when party leaders face criminal allegations involving minors. Some commenters also discussed the broader political impact the case could have locally, particularly because Rivera had recently held leadership positions within the state party structure. Others focused more on the allegations themselves, arguing that public officials should face increased scrutiny and accountability when accused of serious crimes.

The case continues to draw attention online as Rivera faces pending felony charges and the investigation moves toward the scheduled court appearance later this month. Discussions surrounding the arrest have also continued on social media platforms and in political forums, as users debate accountability, public trust, and the party leadership’s response.
