It seems Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater are done hiding their love for each other. After dating quietly for over a year, the couple appears ready to go public with their relationship. During a new interview with GQ, Slater finally broke his silence about his experience dating the singer. He had the sweetest things to say about his girlfriend, like the fact that he fell in love with her on the set of Wicked.
Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater’s Wicked Romance
According to the GQ interviewer, the topic of Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater’s romance made the actor “laugh” and “blush.” He agreed it was a “super big year” for him. Although he couldn’t be happier to find love with his Wicked co-star, Slater is aware that not everyone is a fan of their relationship.
Unfortunately, most of the criticism toward Grande and Slater dating has been due to wild rumors surrounding the couple. After news broke that they were an item in July 2023, some fans speculated they had cheated on their respective spouses with each other.
The rumors began due to the stars both having recently gotten out of serious relationships. Grande broke up with her husband Dalton Gomez after two years of marriage. Meanwhile, Slater split from his wife and high school sweetheart Lilly Jay after five years of marriage. The Broadway star admitted it was “really hard” to see the accusations since people were “getting things wrong.”
Despite the drama, Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have managed to stay strong. Now, they’ve been together for over a year. “It was an amazing year and a really beautiful thing,” Slater said about developing feelings for the pop star through Wicked.
The Jon M. Chu film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Grande as Glinda (the Good Witch of the North). Meanwhile, Slater plays Boq, a munchkin who is in love with Glinda. Slater said he can’t wait for fans to watch the movie, especially Grande’s performance.
He praised his girlfriend by saying he’s “really, really proud” of her work on the film. “She’s poured herself into it,” he said. “I’m really excited to be there for this next step of it when the world gets to see the amazing thing that she did.”
Wicked will premiere on Friday, Nov. 22. Its sequel will hit the big screen almost exactly a year later on Friday, Nov. 21.
