The soundtrack of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is available for pre-order now! With this announcement, new details have been unveiled. With the movie’s release happening on November 16, 2018, the soundtrack will be released digitally on November 9, 2018. It will also be available on CD at the end of November and on vinyl January 2019. It will feature 25 brand new tracks, as well as three exclusives.
The exclusive pieces are found only on the soundtrack and not in the movie. They are piano solos performed by the composer, James Newton Howard. Howard is a Grammy (The Dark Knight) and Emmy (Gideon’s Crossing) award winner as well as an Oscar nominee (Defiance, The Village). He composed for the first Fantastic Beasts movie and is also known for composing the soundtrack to The Hunger Games, The Fugitive, and Peter Jackon’s King Kong. Howard performs three solo piano pieces titled Dumbeldore’s Theme, Fantastic Beasts’ Theme, and Leta’s Theme.
Howard had this to say about working on the movie:
“To work on Fantastic Beasts is a wonderful musical opportunity. The movie is delightful, substantial, and complex; and director (David Yates) focuses very seriously on the music and is a truly passionate and enthusiastic collaborator.”
Two tracks from the soundtrack have been released early. You can stream them to sample or purchase them. They are Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Salamander Eyes.
The soundtrack is being released by WaterTower Music, which is an in-house music label for Warner Bros. The new movie continues a story in J.K. Rowling’s world of magic and muggles, featuring characters mentioned in the original Harry Potter books including author Newt Scamander and dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. This is a sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which came to theaters in 2016. It picks up the story after the magical world was almost unveiled in New York City and Grindelwald came out of hiding.
