It looks like the mainline Fast and Furious franchise may be nearing its end. But don’t worry. The Fast and Furious family will live on.
Fast and Furious producer and star Vin Diesel recently spoke with Total Film (via GamesRadar) about the long-running franchise. Diesel revealed that he had already started planning on the 10th installment. It was also said that this possible conclusion could be split into two parts.
“I started planning for Fast 10 before we started filming Fast 9. Very much so,”
“The universe is so robust and so rich with talent and rich with story that, on one level, it’s totally feasible to have spinoffs, and I think that’s something that is inevitable. Universal deserves it because of how much they’ve invested in this little saga, and it’d be good to give back to Universal. And for the fans, should Fast 10 parts one and two be the conclusion, it would be nice for this world to continue for generations to come.”
Fast and Furious 10 is set to be the final film in the “Fast Saga,” after all. The studio might as well go all-out and follow franchises such as The Hunger Games and Harry Potter.
Over the years, the Fast and Furious franchise has evolved from a racing franchise to a heist thriller to a wildly ridiculous action-flick. Judging from the trailer for F9: The Fast Saga that saw Dom catch a car and the return of fan-favorite Han (who seemingly died in Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift), the series is definitely still considered to be in that latter category.
Future Fast and Furious Spin-Offs
No matter where you land on this series, it looks like the Fast and Furious franchise will continue with spin-offs like Hobbs and Shaw and a possible female-led film that is still awaiting approval. Diesel told MTV International:
“I’ve created a female spinoff, and that script comes in next month. So we will see.”
F9: The Fast Saga is slated to hit theaters on May 22nd, 2020.
