Amazon Prime Video released the trailer for Goodnight Mommy this morning. The trailer stars Naomi Watts (The Ring), starring as the terrifying mother, with Nicholas Crovetti (Big Little Lies) and Cameron Crovetti (The Boys) as the suspicious twin sons Elias and Lukas. The Goodnight Mommy movie is a remake of the 2014 Austrian psychological horror film of the same name.
The Goodnight Mommy Trailer Unfolds
Directed by Matt Sobel and written by Kyle Warren, Goodnight Mommy is the story of twin boys visiting their mother at her home in the country after she’s undergone cosmetic surgery. When the twin boys arrive at the house, they see their mother, or the person claiming to be her, with bandages wrapped around her entire face.
The dark-toned Goodnight Mommy trailer creeps on as Watts’ character says, “I hate that you have to see me like this, but it’s nothing to be afraid of.” The twins, unaware that their mother was undergoing surgery, tell her that “Dad didn’t say anything.” She goes on to say, “I was hoping this could be our little secret. What do you think?” The boys start to wonder what she looks like under the gauze and sense that something doesn’t add up. Their eerily suspicion rises as they realize the woman under the mask isn’t their mother at all.

The original Goodnight Mommy film, released in 2014, was written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. The film ended up being nominated for 36 awards and winning 23 of those categories. If you’re interested in watching the original foreign Goodnight Mommy, the German-spoken movie has English subtitles to read along. If the Goodnight Mommy 2022 remake is anything like the original, it’s sure to cause unease and terror.
Goodnight Mommy arrives on Amazon Prime Video on September 16, 2022.
