Harry Styles has officially spoken out about the death of One Direction band member Liam Payne.
In an emotional Instagram post, Styles, 30, told his nearly 48 million followers that he was “devastated” by the news. “His greatest joy was making other people happy. And it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it,” he continued. “Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious. He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving.”
Harry concluded his post by saying, “The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend. My heart breaks for Karen, Geoff, Nicola, and Ruth, his son Bear, and all those around the world who knew him and loved him as I did.”

On October 16, 2024, news broke that Liam fell from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Emergency services pronounced the singer dead once they arrived at the scene.
According to officials, the incident is being investigated as a “doubtful death” or “suspicious death.” However, they claimed the known facts indicate “that the musician was alone when the fall occurred.” Additionally, they noted he was likely “going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse.”
In addition to Harry Styles, many other celebrities have spoken publicly about Liam’s untimely death. The official One Direction Instagram account posted a statement, saying Payne’s bandmates were “devastated” by the news. “In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”
Harry Styles and Liam Payne met on Simon Cowell’s show, The X Factor. They, along with three others, formed One Direction. Although the group didn’t win the show, they went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Since their debut, they’ve released four No. 1 albums and six top 10 singles, according to Billboard. Their time together also sparked Styles’s and Zayn Malik’s successful solo careers.
