Billie Eilish is sharing her story of victory over her eating disorder three years after opening up about the struggle. The singer, who is currently on her HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour, had to make a lifestyle switch, especially with her touring habits, to see a positive change.
Eilish dished on her progress while on the cover of Vogue, saying her ongoing seventh headlining concert tour is different from the others. She explained that in the past, touring brought her a lot of pain and discomfort. “I’ve had some really dark times on tour,” Eilish confessed. “For a long time, I was kind of living like it was temporary. Like, yeah, ‘I’m touring for now, and it’s kind of unpleasant and whatever. It’ll be over.’ And the truth is, it’s the rest of my life.“
As a result, the Ocean Eyes singer was forced to have a change of mind. “I didn’t realize that I could make touring enjoyable,” she said of her new perspective. “I just was very lonely for many years, and I’m not interested in that anymore.” As part of her new resolve, Eilish, who told the publication she wants “to enjoy the show” and her “days,” began learning how to cook. Little did she know it would heal her.
“My mom is an amazing cook and I thought I was a bad cook, but now people are like, ‘You can cook!’ It’s just that I don’t really know a lot of recipes.”
Eilish added that cooking helps combat her eating disorder. “I definitely am like, ‘Oh my God, I deserve this meal,'” she quipped.
Billie Eilish Recalled ‘Starving’ As A Teenager
The two-time Golden Globe winner first spoke about her body image issues and eating disorder in a 2021 Vanity Fair interview. Eilish revealed that becoming a teenager was difficult. “The reason I used to cut myself was because of my body,” she confessed before adding:
“Five years ago, I wasn’t really eating. I was, like, starving myself. I remember taking a pill that told me that it would make me lose weight and it only made me pee the bed—when I was 12. It’s just crazy.”
Luckily, all that is behind for Eilish, who now strongly encourages body positivity among her fans.
