Despite this, you can start a romantic relationship and add more diversity to the storyline. If you want to choose this Astarion, the vampire elf as your soulmate, don’t worry, it’s easy to communicate with him, and if you follow the specific conditions, you can easily achieve the desired result.
How to Recruit Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3
First, before you can start dating Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to find and recruit him to your team. Luckily, you can do this from the beginning of the game, in Act 1, so here’s what you need to do:
- After the crash on Ravaged Beach, find the crashed Nautiloid ship, and enter it through the opening located at the following coordinates: X:265, Y:270.
- Go through the ship to the other side into the desert, avoiding enemies who will try to kill you.
- Follow the path to the north, where you can hear Astarion screaming, and get closer to start the cutscene.
- Convince him that you are not a danger and invite him to join your team.
This way, you can start your romantic journey with him. Of course, it will take a lot of time and effort. You will need to please Astarion by performing actions and making decisions that he approves. In each of the 3 Acts, you will be able to see a romantic scene, but only if you have met certain conditions. So let’s talk about all this in more detail.
Things Astarion Approves and Disapproves in Baldur’s Gate 3
Astarion has lived long enough not to be a hero anymore, and he has entirely different intentions. Keeping him happy may not appeal to some players, as his preferences are rather cruel and selfish. Let’s not waste time and see what he approves and disapproves:
Approves
- If you let him bite you.
- If you fulfill his requests.
- If you choose to side with evil by allying yourself with devils or goblins.
- If you are arrogant and show cruelty to the weaker.
- If you kill others ruthlessly and without hesitation.
Disapproves
- If you behave heroically.
- If you are discreet and friendly.
- If you do not approve of his ideas and actions.
Thus, you shouldn’t be very noble if your relationship with Astarion is at stake. Let’s talk about what romantic scenes await you in each of the acts.
BG3: Romance With Astarion in Act 1
In Act 1, everything is simple, the first romantic scene will be available after completing two quests, namely:
- Rescuing the Druid Halsin.
- Save the Refugees.
When you’re done with them, head to your camp and use Long Rest. This way, after resting, you will be taken to a celebration where you will need to find Astarion and talk to him. This is an important moment because now you can start a romance with Astarion, so choose the following options in the dialog:
- “Really? Saving lives is awful?”
- “True, the goblins would have thrown a wilder party.”
- “And what’s your idea of ‘a little fun’?”
- “All right, let’s do it. I’ll see you later.”
Now you will have a rather serious choice, you can go to bed alone or with Astarion. If you choose the second way, you will have your first romantic night, so here are the dialog options you need to choose:
- “You don’t have me yet.”
- “And what do you want?”
- “Nod”
After that, you will see a dark screen.
BG3: Romance With Astarion in Act 2
In Act 2, you won’t be able to see a single romantic scene with Astarion. Instead, you will have a rather frank and intimate dialog with Astarion, which will significantly affect the development of your relationship in the future.
After you accept Raphael’s deal and trace the Orthon for him, you will receive information about Astarion’s scars. This is what will initiate the conversation after you return to the camp for the night. Here are the dialog options that you will need to select:
- “Are you alright?”
- “So the nights we spent together didn’t mean anything?”
- “I care about you. Deeply”
- “You are worth a great deal to me, no matter what you’re going through”
BG3: Romance With Astarion in Act 3
The events in Act 3 are the most interesting, and you will have the opportunity to develop your relationship with Astarion in two different ways, depending on whether you allow him to complete the ritual after killing Cazador or not. Let’s take a look at each option.
Allow Astarion To Complete the Ritual
By allowing the vampire elf to complete the ritual and become a Vampire Ascendant, you will fully enlist his support and love. After helping him carve the runes and complete the ritual, you can return to the camp. At one point, Astarion will approach you to talk to you. Choose the following dialog options to do everything right:
- “I want to be a vampire, like you”
- “Yes, that’s all I want.”
- “Please, yes.”
After that, a sex scene between the both of you will start, after which you will have the option to let Astarion bite you to get the vampire bite ability.
Stop the Ritual by Refusing Astarion
If you decide to stop the ritual, you will disappoint him, but you can still build relationships with him and even see a romantic scene. Thus, after returning to the camp, Astarion will approach you and offer to walk to the cemetery. Build a dialog with him, choosing any options, until he starts talking about how he wants to enjoy life. If you would like to see a romantic scene, choose the following options:
“Oh? Do you want a little fun?”
or
“I thought you’d never ask.”
All other options for dialogue will lead to nothing, or to the fact that Astarion will be truly grateful for your support and attention. That’s all you need to know to romance Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3. Good luck!
