A common difficulty that players face in games is the all-too-annoying and frustrating “I don’t have room in my inventory” issue. Now, that’s not to say all games make it hard to explore and loot for more than a few minutes, but with Enshrouded, you really need to learn how to upgrade your backpack as soon as possible. While you’re wandering around Embervale kicking bad guy butts and picking up literally everything you see that’s collectible, you can run out of space in your backpack very quickly. Luckily, there’s a solution for this, and it’s only pretty difficult to actually get your hands on.
Unlocking the Backpack Upgrade in Enshrouded
Like most useful things in Enshrouded, you’ll have to put in a bit of work to actually increase your backpack space. That said, don’t be expecting to get any extra inventory slots until you’re around level 8 or 9, and even then, it’s super tricky when you go at it alone.
Before you get started you must have the Hunter NPC unlocked. She can be unlocked by finding her in the Hunter Vault, waking her up, and placing her in your base using the Summoning Staff. However, once you’ve got her unlocked, you’ll need to do more. I really hope you didn’t think it’d be that easy.

Enshrouded: Starter GuideTo unlock the Small Backpack equipment upgrade, you’ll need to complete a quest that will take you farther North than the Farmer Vault, so be ready to take on some level 13+ enemies while you participate in a wild goose chase with a crafting station, The Hunter’s Hand Spindle. Evidently, Athalan Skree, the Hunter simply can’t do anything without her trusty Hand Spindle. So head out, make your way up the dangerous terrain of central Embervale, and brave the toxic-sludge-spewing spiders to collect the Spindle, bring it back, and hand it over.
How To Craft the Small Backpack
Once you’ve done all the requirements and made it through the spiders, boars, ravagers, and terrifying slopes, you’re just about ready to get some extra backpack slots.
- Small Backpack Equipment
- +8 Backpack Slots
- An extension to your backpack that enlarges your inventory a little.
- Requires the Hunter to be Sheltered
- 3x Torn Cloth
- 4x Dried Fur
- 5x String
You must craft the Small Backpack directly from the Hunter, and it can’t be done at any crafting stations or other NPCs. However, once it’s crafting, go into your inventory and select, then equip it. You will find an additional row of inventory slots in your backpack.
Enshrouded is now available on PC.
