Hawk Tuah Girl is fast rising through the ranks less than a year after stepping into the spotlight. Haliey Welch became a social media sensation after her NSFW description of oral sex went viral in June 2024. She has since built on the fame, turning into a powerhouse brand. Now, her success seems to have caught the eye of one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world. However, fans think the recognition is undeserved.
The Internet darling is the latest celebrity to be inducted as an honorary member of The Harvard Lampoon. Welch confirmed the great news in an interview, saying she feels honored to receive such a privilege. She also expressed excitement about traveling down to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to accept the bestowed title. However, she remains unsure of the date. Per TMZ, Hawk Tuah Girl’s induction puts her in the league of Elon Musk, Aerosmith, Winston Churchill, Adam Sandler, and more, who have previously been bestowed the honor. The Harvard Lampoon is the world’s oldest continually-published humor magazine, founded in 1876 by seven undergraduates. Some of its notable alumni include Conan O’Brien, Colin Jost, Alan Yang, and BJ Novak.
Although Welch is over the moon to be associated with the prestigious Harvard, she doesn’t want fans to get their hopes up about her being an alumnus. While expressing interest in possibly bagging a degree, the 22-year-old admitted she doesn’t think she is smart enough to get in. However, if she does enroll, Law is her preferred course.
Hawk Tuah Girl Slammed For Harvard Recognition
Unfortunately, Hawk Tuah Girl’s excitement about her induction wasn’t shared by angry fans online. Many couldn’t understand why she was deserving of the honor.
“What has she even done in her life to get this?” wondered one fan, while another termed her “the real industry plant.”
A third comment read, “She did something funny in a video that went viral. That isn’t supposed to earn you a career in Tinseltown with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
Another critic penned, “Only in America do we elect a liar, insurrection, fascist to the POTUS AND make a girl who says she wanna spit on some c**k famous!”
A fifth remark read, “Um, what? White privilege is crazy.”
Despite achieving stardom with explicit content, Welch has been trying hard to clean her image. Months ago, she spoke about stepping away from the viral “Hawk Tuah Girl” name and using her birth name going forward. The influencer also launched her podcast, Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch, in September 2024. Now, with a Harvard Lampoon induction to her name, she seems to be heading in the right direction.
