Jeremy Renner Joins ‘Knives Out 3’ in His First Film Role Since Snowplow Accident

From nearly dead to murder mystery star

These days, Jeremy Renner is mostly known for two things: being Hawkeye in the MCU and nearly dying after being crushed by a snowplow. His role in the MCU is longer, of course, dating back to 2011, but in more recent years all anyone’s been talking about is how he nearly died in January 2023. His recovery has been long and complex, leading to him missing out on his namesake TV show, but Jeremy Renner’s apparently ready to make his grand return to the big screen with Knives Out 3, otherwise known as Wake Up Dead Man.

Jeremy Renner rang in 2023 in the absolute worst way possible after he was crushed by his own 14,000-pound snowplow. The accident nearly spelled the end for the beloved MCU star, who broke 38 bones, a pierced liver, a collapsed lung and had several metal plates put into his legs, face, and back. His recovery has been long and grueling, but he’s been keeping himself busy with his music and he’s been able to put a positive spin on the whole experience, according to his latest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

“[You’re] being tested to your limits, your physical limits, your spiritual limits, your emotional limits. It’s like, I won’t have a bad day for the rest of my life. It’s impossible, right? There’s that gift.”

Even though Jeremy Renner’s been keeping busy in the year and a half since his life-changing accident, it’s no secret that he hasn’t returned to TV or film yet. Renner has yet to officially return to Disney’s Hawkeye, which obviously revolves around Clint Barton his bow-wielding Avenger as he trains Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. There’s been rumors that the upcoming season will move the focus off Renner’s character, but there’s been nothing official about the state of his role in the MCU. In a surprising move, Jeremy Renner’s official return to work isn’t going to be as Hawkeye, but rather in an unspecified role in Knives Out 3.

Not long ago, Rian Johnson – the director behind Knives Out and Glass Onion – announced that Knives Out 3 was officially in development. Daniel Craig will be returning as Detective Benoit Blanc, faced with another ensemble cast of odd characters and another mysterious murder to solve. Not much is currently known about the film, but it has been confirmed that aside from Renner, the cast of Knives Out 3 will also include Andrew Scott, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, and Kerry Washington, among other names.
