Lady Gaga is on cloud nine after a thrilling performance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The singer kicked off the highly anticipated sporting event with an energetic performance of Zizi Jeanmaire’s “Mon Truc En Plumes.” While it was pure delight for fans to see their idol on stage, for Gaga, performing at the Olympics held sentimental value.

Following her riveting performance that tore the internet up, Gaga took to Instagram to share how she felt. Alongside photos of her opening ceremony look, the Alejandro singer expressed deep gratitude for getting the opportunity. “I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics 2024 this year. I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song,” she wrote.

Gaga showered praises on Jeanmaire, celebrating her legacy and recalling an interaction they had before her death in July 2020. They crossed paths on the set of Cole Porter’s musical Anything Goes. The 13-time Grammy winner also expressed her deep love for France and its culture.

“Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music—I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France.”

Gaga, who used to dance at a 60’s French party at the start of her career, recalled rehearsing “tirelessly” to study French choreography. She concluded the touching message, writing, “To everyone in France, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country to sing in honor of you—it’s a gift I’ll never forget!”

Gaga’s performance of “Mon Truc En Plumes” kicked off with a dramatic opening. The 38-year-old descended down the stairs while covered in pink feathers, reminiscent of her Jazz and Piano residency. After coming down the stairs, Gaga proceeded to play the piano, concluding the concert. Fans online were blown away couldn’t hold their praises. “This is how you make an entrance,” gushed one follower, while another wrote, “I bet she had everyone in the audience wondering if she was going to be the next Olympic sport.“
