Mama June‘s life lately has been anything but easy. The reality star is knee-deep in financial troubles involving her youngest daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson. She is also mourning the loss of her eldest daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, who passed away from cancer last December. Amid her life’s woes, Mama June began using drugs to find some balance, and it is beginning to show on her body.
The From Not to Hot star has been on weight loss medication for months now after gaining 130 lbs of stress weight. Recently, she gave an update about her journey, admitting she is making major progress on the scale. “I was against it because I had a gastric sleeve,” the star, whose real name is June Shannon, told Page Six. “But now, I’m in week nine and you can ask the girls — I am so super strict.” The 44-year-old revealed she has lost 30 pounds since she began taking semaglutide in April 2024. “I probably lost 30 pounds in like eight and a half weeks,” she declared.
However, she didn’t completely rely on the famous weight loss injection to shed the extra pounds. Alongside the medication, the TLC star visits the gym “three or four times a week.” She also follows a strict protein-packed diet to aid the process. However, Mama June’s impressive progress hasn’t quelled the worries her loved ones have about her health. Her daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird voiced concerns about the matriarch falling off the wagon.
“I just feel like every other time mom has lost weight so quickly, she’s gained it back, plus more each time. You know?”

Mama June Urges Daughter: ‘Take Me To Court!’
While one daughter is worried about Mama June’s well-being, her relationship with another seems to be hanging by a thread. In the latest episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, fans saw the matriarch defend spending $30,000 of her Honey Boo Boo’s money. The financial crisis, which has been brewing since the start of season 4, reached a tense height when Mama June unleashed an expletive-laden rant on her daughters.
Alana and Lauryn called her out in a private chat for using a portion of her daughter’s paycheck. “The point of the matter is that you’re a piece of s**t, mama, and took somebody’s f**king money,” Lauryn yelled. June was then asked by producers whether she believed the $30,000 belonged to Alana and was owed back to her. The angry reality star answered:
“I legally put the 20 percent in there. I don’t give a f**k. Take me to court!”
Following the heated moment on screen, the television personality expressed regret for her behavior in an interview with ET Online, saying, “That time was, like, honestly, a dark place in my life.”
